The high school of ‘Svetozar Marković’ from Niš is one of the founders and an active member of the European project called SANDKORN for ten years (since 1999). SANDKORN is a humanitarian organization and a union of European high schools whose main aim is to promote education, culture and integration of young people in Europe, together with the integration of countries in the European Union with respect to all the cultural and national values and differences.

Our students and their teachers have, by representing themselves, very successfully represented both Niš and Serbia, so this year we have been given the honour and the privilege of organizing the regular annual SANDKORN conference. We are going to be the hosts to the students from the Netherlands, Ireland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro (the total of 70 students) from August 30 to September 6 2010. The city of Niš has given us a lot of support which will help us organize the conference successfully.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Culture and Integration of Young People’. The workshops will be held in a space in the Fortress of Niš which will be subsequently arranged and equipped, and through many free and other creative activities, the students will get a chance of knowing our city better.
